Grammar Note

SIMPLE PASTالماضي البسيط :

USAGE : استخدام الفعل

With an action that started in the past and was completed then .

FORM : صيغة الفعل

(a) Inf.v. + d/ed (regular verbs) الأفعال المنتظمة (b) Second Form ( irregular verbs) الأفعال غير المنتظمة(الشاذة) الصيغة الثانية للفعل

AFFIRMATIVE :صيغة الإثبات :

- Subj. + v. + obj.

He cleaned his room .

We saw the ocean.

NEGATIVE :صيغة النفي :

- Subj. + Aux. + (not) + (Inf.v.) + Obj. .

(Did)

He did not clean his room .

We did not see the ocean .

INTERROGATIVE :صيغة الاستفهام:

- Aux. + Subj. + (Inf.v.) + Obj. ?

Did he clean his room ?

Did you see the ocean ?

ADVERBS : الظروف الدالة على الزمن :

(yesterday – last week/year...a year ago/a month ago...- two days back..- in 1980..)

NOTE : ملاحظة :

- Doubling the final consonant when the verb ends with a vowel and consnant letters

نقوم بمضاعفة الحرف الأخير الساكن اذا انتهى الفعل بحرف علة متبوعا بحرف ساكن

stop stopped / admit admitted.



- Verbs ending with (Y) following a consonant, we change the(Y)into(i)& add (ed) . ed ونضيف iالى y المسبوقة بحرف ساكن نقلب الـ y الأفعال المنتهية بـ

carry carried

-But if the verb ends with (y) following a vowel , we keep the (y) and we just add (ed)

ed ونضيف y المسبوقة بحرف علة فإننا نبقي الـ y الأفعال المنتهية بـ

obey obeyed
